The issue with fleeing reality into video games, sci-fi and fantasy novels
Escapism is one of the major issues plaguing young white men. Hardly any young white man is not a gamer of some sort. If not a gamer, he immerses himself in board games and novels of fantasy or sci-fi. The more disciplined and intelligent of them might use this to develop some skills, such as the boy who learns to build computers and learns to code to better run his games, or the boy who reads sci-fi and becomes interested in physics and technology and starts reading actual scientific works or developing rudimentary technical skills. But these are far and few between, the vast majority are passive consumers. As in anything, the majority is passive and a few are born to be more skilled, ambitious and to achieve more and strive higher. This is exactly why a society needs guidance and institutions to maintain social cohesion. Leave individuals on their own and some few will still have achievements, overcoming all obstacles, and others will end up weighing in at 200kg unable to leave their house.
Meanwhile, young white women are still fully engaged in the real world, as they are more people focused over objects and in all cases hold social power in the real world through simple default, not through skills but through their sexuality. What we see then among teenagers is a substantial segment of young white men boarded up in their homes, wasting time passively consuming and escaping the harsh reality that is modernity, while the women are out in the real world and matching with future partners. With many young white men boarded up indoors, its no wonder if the women simply go for men who are available (i.e. non whites).
But make no mistake, video games are especially vicious. Men, young men particularly, are driven to build and achieve. Their sexual power and social power is built exclusively on merit and achievement, and we men have powerful inbuilt biological drives towards achievement. Video games are made to play into this drive, game developers hire whole teams of psychologists to optimize the feeling of false achievement in their games. The EXP bar has replaced the feeling of achievement of the first time you go out and shoot a goose. The feeling of learning a skill like carving a statue out of wood, or fixing broken things in your house with your father (who is often absent in any case). Exploring digital worlds and fantasy worlds in books has replaced going out into the woods and discovering a birds nest or a fox hole.
As a teenager, I wasted several years playing video games. I was quite a big fan of fantasy and sci-fi, Lord of the Rings, Warhammer 40,000 and such. Personally I deeply regret having wasted this time rather than having used it to learn more useful skills, although I probably wasn’t the worst example of degeneration through modern entertainment as one can be. The example of the obese young man hanging behind his computer drinking soft drinks and eating Cheetos springs to mind. I grew up both hunting geese and playing games, but the games took up more and more of my time, as the feeling of achievement and reward are much faster and easier to achieve in virtual reality. Minecraft especially is like crack for ambitious young white men. In a way it is the ultimate most masculine, most Faustian game ever. You can remake the world in your image, with your sheer will. All it takes is work. To your dopamine receptors, building a house in minecraft or one in reality feels the same, though one is just bytes and the other will house you and your family for generations to come. Or if nothing else it holds value and accumulates worth.
But its not like I don’t understand the impulse to escape reality many young men have. Partially its laziness and the ease of virtual achievements versus real ones, partially its manipulation by immoral marketing departments but above all its just the need to escape to a more pleasant, sane world than the one we live in. I suspect video game use and the increasing commonality of substance abuse have the same point of origin: modernity. In the modern world you are as a man expected to take all the burdens and responsibilities of hard work, being a contributing member of society, be chivalrous, die in war if need be. But all the rewards for your responsibilities have been stripped of you, as a white man. You are at the bottom of the social ladder. All social ills are your fault, you are by no means guaranteed fair rewards for hard work because through taxation and inflation, which are needed to subsidize minorities, half your income is stolen. You arent even guaranteed a happy family life or children. Firstly because its expensive, only the middle class can afford to have children and raise them to a western standard these days, secondly because women hold all social power in a relationship and in family court. Excuse my MGTOW esque outburst here, but it is true. What MGTOW have to say about the breakdown of relations between the sexes is quite true.
Secondly we live in a modern world that is profoundly unheroic. What are the dominant ideologies? Neoliberalism, the ideology of merchants. And Cultural Marxism, the ideology of beggars. The biggest carrot the establishment has for you, besides an assortment of increasingly heavy sticks, is that you become an efficient worker drone. Maybe earn six figures and be able to retire at 55 with a boat. No young man is impressed by the offer of a cushy 9-5 with benefits. All young men dream of slaying dragons, even if they are 200kg, have never gone outside an urban area and have the testosterone level of a preteen girl. But they still dream of it. Even the profoundly unmasculine antifa see themselves as fighting dragons and saving maidens when they fight us. Kill or be killed, the thrill of the fight, the thrill of hunting. Modernity does not offer that to young men. And we evolved over a hundred millennia to be hunters and warriors. These are not instincts that can just be quelled through social engineering in three generations like the Marxist are trying. The closest you can get to heroism is to be an American, enlist in the army and die pointlessly on some sand dune for the benefit of Globalist Elites. As a European, I cant even do that. I could perhaps become a Dutch Marine and sternly warn some Somali pirates, because shooting them would just be not done and grounds for court martial.
So a young man goes and slays virtual dragons. Its much less effort and your brain doesn’t care, it is dopamine either way. Even into their adulthood, many remain little boys. Punished for every attempt to be assertive, for they carry the original sin of being white. Faced with no prospects, unless they are already of the middle class or higher. Their dating prospects? Sluts that they neglected to engage when they were young men. And who might well take the kids and half your income, with no social or legal repercussion. Its no wonder many turn to opiates rather than just video games.
Things are never hopeless however. You can kick your video game addiction, assert yourself, learn real skills. Pick up a barbell rather than a gaming controller. Explore the woods around your town sometime and see the true beauty of nature, rather than a poor imitation on a PC screen. And then set the axe into the root of all our social ills. The more responsible of us have relinquished video games and found real dragons to slay. Marxism, globalism, feminism. But you have to stop wasting time with computer games and stop escaping reality into fictional worlds. The real world is here and now, and will swallow you up and destroy you if you aren’t careful. Face reality, don’t flee it. Because you cant keep running, escapism, just like white flight, is just a temporary refuge to keep some comfort. You will still become a minority in your neighborhood eventually, no matter how many times you move to find better schools. The harsh modern world will drag you out of your fantasy world eventually, and confront you with your own personal failures, as well as the failures of our whole society, which is in large part caused by irresponsible men being loners and not taking the burden on them of reforming it.
Ernst Jünger wrote an essay, or perhaps I should call it a short novel, “Über den Schmerz” (On Pain). In it he theorizes that everything in the world has a pain-cost. You pay it now, and have a little bit of pain to avoid more pain later. Or you choose comfort now, and delay the pain until eventually you will have to pay an excruciating pain-cost, which may well kill you. Less abstractly: you work the land and save for winter and have a little pain and sweat every day, or you act like a vagabond and kick the can ahead until winter hits and you die of starvation and hypothermia.
